Platform: Overcoming Adversity Through the Arts.
Joell along with her three older brothers grew up in Bellevue. She recently completed her Master’s in Mass Communications and Journalism and minor in Psychology. She has been offered admission to several law schools and plans on obtaining a law degree to pursue a career as a broadcast news producer. Joell’s philanthropic platform, “Overcoming Adversity Through the Arts,” is based on her personal experiences with overcoming her symptoms of Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Scoliosis through dance, theater and vocal performance.
Joell is currently the spokesperson for the Northwest Division of Autism Speaks. In addition, she created “Sunshine Sessions,” an arts and literacy outreach program for patients at Seattle Children’s Hospital, sponsored by Sun Maid Raisins. An advocate of film and fashion art, Joell founded the Seattle Fashion Film Festival as a sister to the highly successful La Jolla Fashion Film Festival.
At Miss Washington America Joell was awarded the CMN Miracle Bowl award for raising over $3200. She was announced as a top 10 finalist and received the Rookie of the Year award.
