Executive Director: Demetra Collins
Demetra has been involved in pageantry for 10 years. She was Miss Washington Earth 2011, a top 10 finalist and Spirit Award recipient at the Miss Washington USA 2012 pageant and 3rd runner up to Miss Washington USA in 2013. She began volunteering with the Miss America Program four years ago. Demetra has been a judge, mentor, coach, and volunteer in multiple pageant systems. She first became involved with the Miss Seattle Program in 2014. Today, she is the Executive Director and hopes to help continue the legacy of the prestigious Miss Seattle Program.
Before pageantry, Demetra was a competitive horseback rider and was ranked top 20 in Washington State 4-H. She grew up serving as a board member for her local 4-H club and was a mentor to younger boys and girls. Demetra was featured in the Seattle Times in 2007 for being a competitor at the Evergreen State Fair 4-H Horse Competition. She trained her horse to not only show in Performance, but also in Gaming. She qualified for State in both Gaming and Performance Show in 2007, which had only been done by a few riders before her.
Currently, Demetra is a Co-Director for the Miss Relay for Life Charity Pageant. Demetra encourages all girls and women to use the Relay for Life Pageant as a way to practice on stage all while raising money and awareness for a great cause. In her spare time, she makes pageant earrings and hopes to one-day launch her jewelry line nationally. She currently resides in the Greater Seattle Area with her husband Beau and her English Bulldog “The Beast”.
President: Dave Barksdale
Dave is a 22-year veteran of the United States Navy. In those 22 years David served aboard seven ships and has been deployed more than 10 times to the Western Pacific and beyond. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer from USS Momsen (DDG-92) on January 31st 2009.
He is currently a full time Numerical Controls Technician at Boeing’s Everett Facility. When he isn’t busy at Boeing he enjoys working in his photo studio or videoing numerous pageants throughout the year, including the Miss Washington and Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen pageants.
Dave has been involved in the Miss America Organization since February 2009 when his niece Karyn Barr was crowned Miss Grays Harbor and has remained actively involved ever since. Dave currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the Miss Seattle Scholarship Pageant. Dave and his wife Maria reside in Lynnwood with their son Rodney and their 3 dogs Hobo, Mae and Beans.
VP and Outstanding Teen Director: Ross Amkraut
A graduate of the University of Florida Levin College Of Law, Ross currently works for Expeditors International of Washington as an attorney in the anti-corruption due diligence department. Ross also is in the process of starting his own family law solo practice, Amkraut Family Law, PLLC. Additionally, Ross dedicates a substantial amount of his time to pro bono work with the King County Bar Association, providing free legal aid to indigent residents of King County with family law related issues.
Prior to his career as an attorney, Ross was a music educator and professional classical musician – playing violin, piano, and French horn. While working full-time as a public school orchestra director in Orlando, Ross received his Master of Arts in Music from the University of Central Florida where he Concertmaster of the University Symphony. Ross has also performed at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gainesville Orchestra, and as the principal violinist in the Park Lake String Quartet. In addition to teaching in the public school system, Ross was an Associate Conductor with the Florida Young Artists Orchestra, a community youth orchestra program serving the Greater Orlando area.
Ross has been involved with the Miss America Organization for more than a decade, and has served as a pageant coach, mentor, board member, producer, and executive director. Ross has had titleholders capture the title of Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen in 2009 and 2011 and Miss Florida in 2011 and 2013. Currently, Ross is on the Board of Directors with the Miss Seattle Scholarship Organization as the Outstanding Teen Director and Vice President. Ross resides in the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle with his Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix named Coda.
Secretary: Lana Monan
Lana has been involved with the Miss America system for over 20 years. Her parents were the Executive Director and Admissions Chair of the Miss Washington Scholarship Organization when she was a teenager. She performed at Miss Washington for 5 years as a “Miss Washington Dancer”, went on to compete in the Miss Seattle Scholarship Pageant, and was the Executive Director of a sweeper pageant. She volunteered with the Miss East King County Program as the Judge’s Chairman and Mentor for State Competition in 2016, and is elated she was invited to join the Miss Seattle Scholarship Pageant Board. Lana has also judged many local programs.
She has a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Washington and is currently an Ultrasound Service Contract Manager at Philips Healthcare in Bothell. She has 18 years of dance training as well as training in music, public speaking, writing, and modeling. She played Basketball at Seattle University on scholarship her first year of college. She supports Woodinville High School Football where her husband is the Offensive Line Coach. They are also Tyee members supporting University of Washington Football where her husband played for Coach Don James. She is happily married and resides with her husband, Mike, and dog, Buddy, in Lynwood, WA.
