December 22, 2017 Public Statement

On December 21, 2017, several news organizations published articles regarding e-mails sent and received by Sam Haskel, the Miss America Organization CEO. The e-mails in question contained derogatory statements about current and former Miss America titleholders. The entire pageant world is reeling from this and we are currently waiting to hear what happens within the national organization. Team Seattle would like to publicly come forward in support of all Miss America titleholders at the local, state, and national level. Team Seattle does not tolerate any type of disparaging behavior from contestants, titleholders, the Board of Directors, or any of its volunteers.

The Board of Directors for the Miss Seattle, Miss Emerald City, Miss Seattle’s Outstanding Teen, and Miss Emerald City’s Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageants is involved in this organization because we know that the women who participate are highly educated, talented, beautiful, and respectable. Our mission is to empower young women, provide them with the tools necessary to further their success, and help them to achieve their scholastic and professional goals. Team Seattle believes that The Miss America Organization will handle this news appropriately and stands firm in the belief that this organization will persevere and continue to provide incredible opportunities and award millions of dollars in scholarship opportunities to thousands of women across the nation.
